Proverbs and sayings about March

Positive psychology 03/03/2018 Irina03/03/2018Spring is red with flowers ... Proverbs and sayings about spring

Dear readers, it is not for nothing that so many proverbs have been invented about everything in the world. This is a storehouse of folk wisdom, life itself. And although we do not specifically teach them, proverbs express the essence of many phenomena so accurately that they seem to come to mind in appropriate situations. Thanks to this figurativeness, accuracy, they live for centuries in our culture and are passed down from generation to generation.

There are also a great many proverbs about spring: about the weather, about awakening nature, about the months, about the earth, about plants. For each case, there is one that, better than any detailed descriptions, will very briefly reflect the essence of spring phenomena.

How to explain the meaning of proverbs

Proverbs are valuable because, for all the brevity of the presentation, they carry a valuable meaning, a kind of morality, edification. And it is important to correctly understand and be able to explain this meaning. In this section you will find explanations of the essence of some proverbs about spring.

One swallow does not make spring (the meaning of the proverb is that the arrival of one hasty bird does not mean that spring has come.

In the month of April, keep clothes close to the body (that is, there are still cold).

Who sleeps in the spring, cries in the winter (fields and gardens must be sown in the spring, otherwise there will be no reserves in winter).

Do not waste time in vain, spring will pass - you won’t turn back (if it’s a good day, then you need to deal with crops).

Spring rain grows, and autumn rain rots (in spring, rains are necessary for planted seeds to sprout. In autumn, rains spoil an unharvested crop).

In spring - a bucket of water, a spoonful of dirt; in the fall - a spoonful of water, a bucket of dirt (it rains in the spring, the snow melts, but the sun also bakes harder, so all the moisture evaporates faster. In the fall, mud due to the lack of sun and constant cloudy weather).

Spring - light the snow, play the ravines (with the onset of spring, new streams appear, hollows in the ground appear and become visible. That is, places where water flowed).

I saw a rook - meet spring (rooks arrive with the onset of heat, there will be no frost, and spring can already be expected).

Spring has come - everything has gone (in spring everything quickly turns green and wakes up everything around. Flowers, trees come to life, birds fly in, the gardening season begins for adults, and now children can spend all day outside).

Return the debt to the earth - there will be a sense (in the spring it is necessary not only to plant, but also to fertilize the earth).

The earth has warmed up, do not be late with sowing (when the sun has baked and dried the earth a little, then it is time to plant seeds and seedlings).

Early swallows for a happy year (swallows fly to the heat, which means there will be an early spring).

Whoever worked hard in the spring will have fun in the fall (what you plant in the spring, you will gather in the fall).

The bird rejoices in the spring, and the baby of the mother (birds are happy in the spring just like a child at the sight of his mother).

There are no two springs in one year (everything wakes up and blooms once in the spring).

Spring ice is thick and simple; autumn is thin, but tenacious (it is very dangerous to get on and out of the ice in spring. But in autumn, although it seems thin, it is much stronger than spring).

Spring unlocks the keys and waters (all living things wake up, the snows melt, streams flow).

Good flowering - good ovary (if everything blooms and frost does not hit, then the ovary will be good, and the harvest itself).

In the spring that the river spills - you can’t see a drop; in autumn it will sift with chintz - at least scoop it with a bucket (in spring, water quickly absorbs into the ground, and the sun bakes well and dries quickly. And in autumn there is no heat anymore, so dampness constantly stands).

Spring is generous for warmth, but stingy with time (in spring there is a lot of work, you need to clean up after winter and prepare for sowing).

Martok - put on two trousers (trousers are the old name for trousers. The proverb teaches us not to believe in deceptive warmth, but to dress warmly, despite the bright sun).

A good year can be seen in the spring (if there are no late frosts, then nothing will harm the crop).

In March, the chicken will get drunk under the threshold (the poultry will be able to drink water from any place with melt water).

In March, the pike breaks the ice with its tail (this indicates thin spring ice on the river).

The spring is red, and the summer is miserable (fields are sown in the spring, and they begin to turn beautifully green. In the summer, it's time for hard work, because the crops need to be looked after).

All the wisdom of the people is collected in proverbs and sayings about spring. And even now, when we are already so far from Agriculture when we almost do not know how to read signs, in these short but capacious expressions there is still so much valuable meaning for us.

The Day of Remembrance of St. Gerasim of Jordan (popularly the Day of Gerasim Grachevnik) is traditionally celebrated in Rus' on March 17 (March 4, old style). On the next day off - March 19 - an action was held in New Jerusalem to meet the "vanguard of spring" - migratory birds that returned to their native lands after wintering in distant countries.

The Grachevnik is being held in New Jerusalem for the first time. During the action, the guests got acquainted with the life of St. Gerasim of Jordan, as well as with the folk traditions of welcoming spring.

The action took place in the park of the museum, in a clearing near a peasant's hut of the 19th century. In the hut itself, in addition to the permanent exhibition of peasant household items, one could get acquainted with photographic works on the topic “ Birds of the Moscow region"(authors: Inozemtsev V.I. and Bogomolov M.A.). The exhibition aroused no less interest. The image of a bird in Russian embroidery"(works by Sotnikova N.A.).

Directly in front of the hut, drawings of pupils of the children's art school "Inspiration" (Istra) were exhibited. The children drew a variety of birds: bullfinch, sparrow, starling, woodpecker, tit...

- We wanted to hold a children's drawing competition. - says Oksana Vladimirovna Moshchitskaya, head of the wooden architecture department of the New Jerusalem Museum - But when I looked at the works, I liked them all! Individuality is visible in them, it is felt that the children fell in love with the birds they painted. We couldn't choose winners, so we put all the drawings without exception.

Opposite the hut is the "City of Masters" - a fair of handicrafts. Here you could buy clay whistles, rag dolls, birch bark toys, and even watch the creation of amulets made of wood.

The atmosphere of "Grachevnik" was set by the presenter - singer-gusler Artyom Veselov. The holiday was decorated with the performance of the folk song and dance ensemble "Razdolie" (Dedovsk, Istra district). The little guests of New Jerusalem especially liked the performance of the children's musical theater "Reprise" (Istra). The guys played a scene about birds - wintering in their homeland and migratory. And then everyone together solved the "bird" crossword puzzle, guessed the voices of the birds. The smartest got sweet cockerels!

But sweets were not the only treat this Saturday. Everyone liked the lean "bird porridge" - buckwheat, which was prepared by the field kitchen. They ate, praised, but were not greedy - they threw the last spoon into the snow. After all, Grachevnik's motto is: I ate it myself - leave it to the bird!».

A real pleasure for adults and children was the assembly of birdhouses. Boys and girls, as well as their parents, grandparents, enthusiastically knocked with hammers.

- Today we do not just walk and relax. We are talking about birds, their diversity, habits. - says the head of the department of advertising, scientific and educational programs and projects of the museum Nadezhda Nikolaevna Usmanova - and in order not to dwell on words, we got down to business: we make and hang birdhouses, feed birds exhausted by a long flight. This is a concrete help to them in the nesting period.

All the birdhouses collected on the Grachevnik were hung in a birch grove not far from the hut. Now more than a dozen bird families will settle in new comfortable dwellings in New Jerusalem.

- This is our new undertaking, ecological spring action. - says the director of the museum Natalya Alekseevna Abakumova - It is through an event of this format that we try to instill in the younger generation a responsible attitude towards environment to stimulate vigorous activity in the study and protection of nature. Today we made sure that it is interesting for the residents of the Moscow region. So we will celebrate the Day of Gerasim Grachevnik every year!

About Saint Gerasim of Jordan

March 17 according to the Orthodox church calendar is the day of memory of St. Gerasim of Jordan.

The Monk Gerasim "izhi on the Jordan" was born in the 5th century in Lycia (Asia Minor). After being tonsured a monk, he long time lived alone in the desert of Egypt, and then moved to the banks of the Jordan River in Palestine, where he founded a monastery with a very strict charter.

The holy ascetic met a wounded lion in the desert and cured him. In gratitude, the lion began to serve the elder as a pet until his death. The beast died after his master, laying his muzzle on his grave. On the grave and was buried near the tomb of the saint.

O folk holiday- Day of Gerasim Grachevnik

Religious holiday in honor of the Monk Gerasim of Jordan coincides with one of the first signs of the approaching spring - the arrival of rooks, which is why the day of March 4 (17) was called " Gerasim Grachevnik". The people said: " Rook on the mountain - and spring in the yard», « I saw a rook - meet spring», « Gerasim Grachevnik rook leads to Rus'».

By the behavior of the rooks that day, they judged the nature of spring: “ If rooks fly to old nests - spring will be friendly, hollow water will run away all at once". If the rooks arrived earlier, they saw this as a bad omen, foreshadowing a hungry year. To speed up the onset of heat, on the day of Gerasim, they baked birds - “rooks” from rye sour dough.

About the Wooden Architecture Department of the New Jerusalem Museum

In the park zone of New Jerusalem in the 80s of the XX century was founded " Museum of wooden architecture in the open air". In the estate of the Kokorin family, built in early XIX century, an exhibition of peasant household items was opened. The exhibits presented in the hut and hallway reproduce the rustic interior of that time. A wooden chapel, recreated according to measurements and photographs of an 18th-century building, adorns the clearing in front of the gates of the estate. In the distance, on the banks of the Istra River, there is a windmill of the 19th century, where flour was ground until the 1950s. Now these unique monuments of wooden architecture are open to visitors.

On the objects of wooden architecture of the New Jerusalem Museum, many feature films and TV series were shot: The early years of Stirlitz», « The Case of the Dead Souls”, “Admiral”, “Isaev” and others.

Every year, festive mass events and interactive programs are held here: “The Day of Slavic Literature and Culture”, “ Christmas in New Jerusalem», « Maslenitsa - seeing off the Russian winter in New Jerusalem", "Russian wedding", " Moving to new house », « Peasant childhood».

DURING THE CLASSES

I. Organizing moment.

Today at the lesson of natural history we will get acquainted with a very interesting topic. So let's start the lesson.

II. Repetition of the past.

Guys, who can tell me what time of year it is? (Spring)

Tell me, how has the weather changed with the advent of spring?

What happened to the snow? (He began to melt)

Why did he start melting? Name the reason. What do you think happened to our land? Did she start to thaw? (Yes, the earth began to thaw)

That's right, guys, our land began to thaw, because. the warmth of the sun began to warm her.

Tell me, what changes occur with plants in the spring? (Grass begins to grow and the first early flowers. Buds swell on trees and shrubs)

And what are the names of such flowers that begin to bloom before other flowers? (Early flowering)

And why do they begin to bloom first, what are the reasons for such changes? (It gets warm, moisture appears, because the snow begins to melt)

That's right, in addition, the roots of early flowering plants contain nutrients, and heat and moisture help rapid growth.

Let us repeat the reasons for the growth of early flowering plants. (Heat, moisture appears, roots contain nutrients)

In the last lesson, you met with early flowering plants. Several types of plants hang on the board. You must determine which belongs to the early flowering.

  • Scilla
  • Coltsfoot
  • Gladiolus
  • Narcissus
  • Dahlia
  • Aster
  • Chamomile

How should these plants be treated?

Display of signs about the protection of flowers.

With the onset of spring, changes occur not only in inanimate nature, but also in plant life. The earth has thawed, and the first flowers appear. It turns out that changes in inanimate nature and in the life of plants greatly affect the life of animals in the spring. Migratory birds are returning to us: rook, starling, lark, swallow, nightingale, cuckoo, thrush, etc.

Why are these birds called migratory?

Why do birds fly to us in spring?

Guess the riddle:

Lace creeps on the ground
He has no arms or legs. (Worm)

Our land is thawing and many worms appear in it, which will serve as food for birds.

Tell me, why do birds fly away from us in autumn? State the reason for the flight of birds. (The cold is coming and the bird food is running out)

So, what contributes to the migration of birds in autumn and spring? (appearance of food and warmth)

III. Setting the topic and explaining it.

Today in the lesson we will get acquainted with one of the migratory birds, which flies to us first. Guess the riddle:

All migratory birds are blacker
Cleans the arable land from worms,
Jump all day on the arable land
And the bird is called ... (Rook)

No wonder they say about her "I saw a rook - meet spring." Rooks are the first feathered heralds of spring. They also have their own day - March 17, when the rooks arrive. Such a day is called a rookery. It is believed that with the arrival of rooks, spring begins in our country. (Showing a stuffed rook)

Work with the textbook.

Open your textbook and look at the illustration of a rook. Why do you think the rook comes to us first? (Food appeared.) What serves him as food? (Worms). But not only birds feed on worms, but also seeds of sowing serve as food for birds.

What bird do you think the rook looks like? (On the starling)

Why do you think so? (same size)

And how do they differ? (The beak of the rook is white, and that of the starling is yellow, colored)

Consider an illustration in a textbook. Pay attention to the structure of the bird - the rook. What parts does the body of a rook consist of?

The bird feather is a miracle of nature. Lightweight and very durable. Where do you think the largest feathers are located? (on wings and tail)

Feathers play a big role in the life of birds. Why do you think? Feathers not only keep the birds warm, but serve as a feather bed on the abdomen, a blanket on the back.

Pay attention to the legs of the rook. How are they different from animal feet? What do birds need legs for?

Birds need legs not only to walk, but also to rake, defend, attack. So a parrot brings a berry to its beak with its paw, a hawk carries prey in its claws.

IV. Fizminutka.

Two claps over the head
Two claps in front of you
Hide two hands behind your back
And we will jump on two legs.

V. Work with the textbook and workbook.

In the illustration of a bird in a notebook, students write the name of the bird and identify its body parts.

Guessing a rebus with a keyword nest .

Let's look at the illustration of a nest in the tutorial. What is the first thing birds do when they return from a long journey? (Build nests)

Look at the illustration in the textbook and tell me what size nest the rook builds, in what place? Why does he build a big nest in the spring? What for? (For breeding chicks)

The nest is a bird's house. There are no nests. They are molded, weaved, folded. What do you think the rook's nest is made of? (From branches). What else can you build a nest from? (From moss, feathers, wool)

When rooks begin to build nests, there are quarrels between them because of a convenient place for a nest or branches for construction. But mostly the rook is a peaceful and sociable bird. There were cases when rooks collectively built a nest for birds that were late with the construction. Rooks build rough nests from branches and branches. Sometimes there are hundreds of nests in rookeries, as shown in the large drawing in the textbook. The starling arrives second after the rook. The starling, having picked up a birdhouse, cleans it, throwing out last year's nest and garbage, and then prepares a new one. He wears a soft blanket. Tits and starlings settle in houses made for them by man, and in the forest - in ready-made hollows. But larks and nightingales build their nests on the ground. And all this is done by birds in order to breed ... (Offspring)

But nesting time is a difficult and dangerous time for birds. At this time, birds are endangered not only by predators, but also by evil and unreasonable people.

Display of forest signs.

The best singers on earth are birds. In the grove - a nightingale, in the field - a lark, in the forest - a song thrush.

Listen to song thrush and lark sing.

(Music soundtrack sounds)

How can birds be useful? (Destruction of harmful insects)

It is known that a family of swallows destroys about one million pests (midges and mosquitoes) during the summer. The rook, following the plow, is capable of destroying up to 8 thousand dangerous worms and caterpillars per day. Thus, birds are beneficial: they protect crops and plantings of cultivated plants from pests. What else can birds do? They predict the weather. Early arrival of rooks and larks - to a warm spring. The nightingale sings all night - before a fine day. If the rooks scream, it will rain.

VI. Fizminutka.

Birds sat on the lakes
The birds sat down to rest
Birds sat on the lakes
No high waves to be seen.
I'll get out of the plague:
Why so much noise?
There are countless birds on the lakes
There is nowhere for the sun to sit in the water.

VII. Consolidation. Work with a notebook.

Open the notebook on page 32. We will find out if the little animals did the right thing. What are they right and wrong about?

1 drawing (you can not shoot from a slingshot)

2 drawing (you can take pictures, but do not scare the birds)

3 drawing (you can’t get close to the eggs, a strange smell can frighten off the mother bird and she will never return to the nest, and the chicks will die)

How else can you protect rooks?

(show signs)

Children's answers: Build birdhouses. Feed the birds. Do not touch the eggs with your hands.

Now write two or three answers in your notebook on page 32. How can birds be protected?

VIII. Summary of the lesson.

Today in the lesson we got acquainted with the changes in inanimate and living nature with the onset of spring.

What is the reason for the arrival of the rook? (It has become warmer, there is food for the rook)

Which bird comes to us first? (Rook)

Why do they think that if you see a rook, then meet spring? (Spring begins with the arrival of the rook. The rook is the herald of spring)

Why do rooks build nests? (for posterity)

What should be the attitude towards rooks? (Careful)

What other birds fly to us in the spring? (lark, starling, swallow)

Why are they called migratory? (They come to us from distant countries)

Look at the board, the words are written here: attention, care, anger, joy, anger . How did watching the rooks make you feel?

IX. General summary of the lesson.

Exhibition of books. The guys on the board you have books about birds. They are very interesting. Maybe one of you would like to tell us about your book that you brought to our exhibition? What interesting things can you learn about birds in it?

The material will help clarify and expand knowledge about the sequence of spring changes in nature, about the spring months, folk omens, fixes

The plot picture "Winter" hangs on the board.

Children repeat the words in chorus:

Go away, winter!

After all, it's time for spring to come.

Stop getting angry

We are tired of being cold.

The teacher imperceptibly changes the plot picture "Winter" to a mnemonic table

"Spring".

3. Acquaintance with the signs of spring according to the mnemonic table. (Appendix No. 1)

V. invites the children to remember what the spring months are called and what they

in nature they come in a certain order one after another. The month of March is called

they say "morning of the year". Why? (children's answers).

People have always celebrated the meeting of spring. Spring was going on the road for a long time, so

Come quickly, the people asked. The children called out for spring, climbing higher or on

7.V. draws the attention of children to the mnemonic table and finds out what is missing

the word is MARCH. Created problem situation: if we do not find MARCH, then

next spring month APRIL will not come, because in nature

there is order and the laws of time and nature operate.

The question is what to do? Children offer their options. As a result of the discussion

jointly come to the conclusion that they will try to answer questions about spring and

for correct answers to receive missing letters (M, A, R, T). (See Appendix 1)

gu, naming words-definitions about spring: early, long-awaited, bird-like, sweet, green, light ...)

At the end of the game, they receive the letter M and add up the word "MARCH".

With the help of a teacher, children conclude that we have solved the problem and that means

the autumn months will not violate the laws of nature: March, April, May.

12. P.I. Tchaikovsky’s play “Snowdrop” sounds, and the children, choosing diadem caps, improvise with movements, plasticity, facial expressions, creating a “Picture

about spring. At the end of the music, everyone freezes and the teacher takes a photograph and

congratulates the children on the coming of Spring.

Appendix 1.

No. 2. Quiet spring. G. Ladonshchikov.

Who came so quietly-quietly? Well, of course, not an elephant,

And, of course, the hippopotamus couldn't pass quietly like that.

And none of you heard how the leaf came out of the kidney,

And you could not hear, like green blades of grass,

Taking off their green shoes, they quietly stepped out of the ground.

And the snowdrop quietly left. And there is silence everywhere.

This means, this means: the quietest spring has come.

The New Jerusalem Museum hosted a family ecological holiday “The Rooks Have Arrived!”

On Saturday, March 23, in the park of the New Jerusalem Museum, in a clearing near a peasant estate, a spring environmental campaign “The Rooks Have Arrived!

The holiday of Gerasim Grachevnik, as it is popularly called, coincides with the day of memory of St. Gerasim of Jordan. For the third year in the second half of March in New Jerusalem, birds have been met that have returned to their native lands after wintering in distant lands.

This year the holiday took place, despite the fact that the weather was not like spring frosty weather. After all migratory birds in such weather, they need even more help - feeding and arranging birdhouses.

The main goal of the holiday in New Jerusalem is to put together a bird house so that the "spring guides" - the rooks - have a place to settle. To do this, the museum staff prepared enough kits for assembling birdhouses. It turns out that it is not so easy to make a house in which the birds will settle.

The important characteristics of a home for birds were discussed at a specialized master class. For example, a birdhouse should not be planed from the inside, it must be rough. It cannot be painted - the birds do not recognize even a hint of the smell of paint, and they will never live even in the most beautiful house.

But people, especially those who appreciate and love art, employees and museum visitors, cannot be deprived of the craving for beauty. And a way out was found - the museum workers prepared special applications that can be placed on birdhouses without risking scaring away the feathered residents. At the master class on decorating bird houses, the participants were explained how to do it correctly.

Birdhouses made at the festival participated in the competition. As a result, prizes and memorable gifts from the museum went to the most “frost-resistant” authors of bird houses - unfortunately, many did not wait for the results to be summed up and fled to warm themselves, taking birdhouses with them to install in their yard or in the country.

Birdhouses were made not only in the clearing near the hut, but they also brought with them pre-made houses. In the competition, they were held in a separate nomination. Unique exhibits were especially noted - a house with a satellite dish or a "cottage" decorated like a Swiss chalet (author - Stepan Tararyev, 8 years old from Moscow). Despite some violations of technology, the jury especially noted these birdhouses, because they can serve as a real decoration! Stepan donated his birdhouse to the museum, and now it will take its rightful place in the collection of gifts to the New Jerusalem Museum.

In addition to birdhouses, there were many other interesting things at the festival. The hosts - actors of the theater of mass performances "Artist" Denis Ptashkin and Anastasia Suslova - spoke about Gerasim of Jordan and the folk traditions of Gerasim Grachevnik. The guests were pleased with beautiful folk songs by two groups from the Cultural and Leisure Complex of Dedovsk: the Song and Dance Ensemble "Razdolie" (artistic director Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Alexander Kurochkin) and the Exemplary Folklore Ensemble "Zabavushka" (artistic director Olga Skuratovich). Russian folk songs sounded sincerely in the clearing, and smiling and perky performers cheered up the audience.

The theatrical performance "Sinichkin March" of the children's theater "Reprise" (artistic director - senior researcher of the New Jerusalem Museum Irina Gugova) interested the young participants of the holiday. In addition to the mini-performance, the young guests of the holiday took part in games and quizzes, which were held by theater actors.

An exhibition of children's drawings and photographs on the "bird" theme is located in the meadow near the hut. Students of the Children's and Youth Tourism and Ecology School "Inspiration" (headed by Irina Vladimirovna Glazkova) and secondary school No. 2 (works presented by the director of the Children's and Youth Tourism and Ecology Station Shestakova Tatyana Vasilievna) presented their works: a variety of images of birds.

And in the hut itself, the guests got acquainted with the exhibition project "Dream of Flight", prepared specially for this day. In the upper room were presented the works of photographers Vladimir Ivanovich Inozemtsev (Istra) and Mikhail Alexandrovich Bogomolov (Moscow). In addition to these honored masters, children participated in the project.

Also in the hut, students of the Sunday School from the village showed their work. Rozhdestveno of the Istra district (headed by Natalya Vasilievna Poltoratskaya). Small birds made of clay and covered with colored glaze decorated the interior of the peasant's hut and aroused the genuine interest of visitors.

According to tradition, the Museum "bird" mail also worked on this day. The participants of the holiday sent their greetings from the "New Jerusalem" to relatives, friends, just good people. Postcards were sent to the cities of the nearest Moscow region, to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Orel, Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Barnaul.

The exhibition-fair of folk crafts "City of Masters" is an integral part of all mass events of the museum. Not without craftsmen from Moscow and the Moscow region this time too. Crafts made of wood, ceramics, beads and fur attracted with a variety of choices, many products supported the main “bird” theme of the holiday.

In the clearing near the hut it was possible to eat. In addition to the usual edibles, lenten dishes were presented - delicious homemade pies with various fillings, traditional "rooks", pancakes with buckwheat filling, herbal teas. These treats, made from eco-farm products, were presented at the Cardamom tea party.

“This year, about a thousand people visited our action - a good result for the unprecedented March frosts,” says the director of the museum, Natalya Alekseevna Abakumova. — This holiday is very popular both for us and for the guests of the event. We will continue this tradition and will definitely prepare something new and interesting next time. We hope that the number of guests and participants of the holiday will increase, and it will turn into a glorious folk tradition. We will be glad to meet the rooks with you next year!”

About Gerasim of Jordan

March 17, according to the Orthodox church calendar, is the day of memory of St. Gerasim of Jordan.

The Monk Gerasim "who is on the Jordan" was born in the 5th century in Lycia (Asia Minor). After being tonsured a monk, he lived alone for a long time in the desert of Egypt, and then moved to the banks of the Jordan River in Palestine, where he founded a monastery with a very strict charter.

The holy ascetic met a wounded lion in the desert and cured him. In gratitude, the lion began to serve the elder as a pet until his death. The beast died after his master, laying his head on his grave, and was buried near the tomb of the saint.

About the Day of Gerasim Grachevnik

The church holiday in honor of St. Gerasim of Jordan coincides with one of the first signs of the approaching spring - the arrival of rooks, which is why the day of March 4 (17) was called "Gerasim Grachevnik". The people said: “A rook on a mountain - so is spring in the yard”, “I saw a rook - meet spring”, “Gerasim Grachevnik leads a rook to Rus'”. According to the behavior of the rooks that day, they judged the nature of spring: “If the rooks fly to the old nests, the spring will be friendly, the hollow water will run away all at once.” If the rooks arrived earlier, they saw this as a bad omen, foreshadowing a hungry year. To speed up the onset of heat, on the day of Gerasim, they baked birds from rye sour dough - “rooks”.

Spring, according to popular notions, not only brought the long-awaited warmth, but also cleansed and renewed nature.

About the Department of Wooden Architecture of the New Jerusalem Museum

In the park zone of New Jerusalem in the 80s of the XX century, the "Museum of Wooden Architecture in the Open Air" was founded. In the estate of the Kokorin family, built at the beginning of the 19th century, an exhibition of peasant household items is open. The exhibits presented in the hut and hallway reproduce the rustic interior of that time. A wooden chapel, recreated according to measurements and photographs of an 18th-century building, adorns the clearing in front of the gates of the estate. At some distance, on the banks of the Istra River, there is a windmill from the 19th century, where flour was ground until the 1950s. Now these unique monuments of wooden architecture are open to visitors.

On the objects of wooden architecture of the museum "New Jerusalem" many feature films and TV series were shot: "The Young Years of Stirlitz", "The Case of Dead Souls", "Admiral", "Isaev" and others.

Every year, festive events and interactive programs are held here: “Day of Slavic Literature and Culture”, “Christmas in New Jerusalem”, “Russian Wedding”, “Peasant Childhood” and others.
