Nha trang cam what country. Cam Ranh International Airport in Nha Trang

Many of our compatriots, tired of Turkey and Egypt, are looking for some more distant countries with their own unusual culture and traditions for vacation. One of them is Vietnam. Our travelers often fly there to experience an exquisite and at the same time unusual holiday. All conditions have been created there for tourists, the number of which is increasing every year. It is obvious that passengers should be greeted by spacious and comfortable air gates. These are the ones that are found in Nha Trang city. There are two airports there. However, the most popular is Cam Ranh air hub. Let's take a closer look at what this airport is like, as well as what flights it serves.

Often people do not know which airport is CXR, and also why it has such a strange name in the form of an abbreviation. First, it’s worth understanding that CXR is the code for the Vietnamese airport, which is called “Cam Ranh”. Its IATA code is indicated by several letters:

  • CXR directly;
  • and VVCR.

This is an international air hub, which is located 30 km from the capital, closer to the southern part. At first it was an airport not for civil flights. It was built as a military base, but later was completely converted into a passenger base. This airport accepts both domestic and international flights. This also includes flights from Russia, in particular from the capital. The average duration of a direct flight from the Russian Federation is 10 hours. In addition to regular flights, Cam Ranh also serves seasonal flights.

Most peak occurs in the winter months. Not all Russians like cold winters, blizzards and snowfalls. Some prefer all year round warmth, sun and beach. These are the conditions that Vietnam offers in winter. It's the holiday season there at this time. A huge number of flights there are operated by tourist charters. Domestic and regional flights are also no less popular. Note that the airport itself is not designed for a huge number of passengers, so during the holiday season it has difficulty coping with the flow of vacationers.

Popular domestic flights include: flights to Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnamese low-cost carriers operate on these routes, for example, Jetstar Pacific Airlines, VietJet Air and others.

It must be said that direct flights through this air harbor are quite expensive, so many people prefer to travel with transfers, although in this case they have to spend a lot of time on the flight. However, for those who want to save money on their flight, this is a great opportunity. Moreover, if you fly in the summer, when the influx of tourists is noticeably reduced, you can reduce the ticket price by almost half. Airlines want to receive funds all year round, so they give bonuses to those who fly in the summer.

Air hub infrastructure

The structure of this airport is not difficult. There are no labyrinths there. The layout is quite simple and clear. It is very difficult to get lost there. Cam Ranh has only one terminal. He was renovated 7 years ago. There are few places to check in for flights, so passengers are asked to arrive early in order to have time to go through all the necessary procedures. All inscriptions on electronic panels are duplicated in the state language, as well as in English and Russian, so that visiting Russians can understand.

The airport has all the necessary facilities, but in limited quantities. For example, there is not an abundance of shops. There is only one small duty free shop. Wireless Internet, alas, works intermittently and not throughout the complex. However, access to it is free. Thus, to access the network, passengers will have to “search” for an available network.

In addition, you can not buy everything your heart desires in the only store located on the territory of the air hub. Only alcohol, souvenirs and confectionery are sold there. However, the airport has a large number of ATMs, luggage storage, cafes and snack bars. There are all conditions so that passengers can wait for their flight in comfort. Interestingly, there is even a currency exchange office on site, where the exchange rate is always acceptable.

What transport do you use to get to the airport?

CXR Airport is located in such a place that it can be reached by almost any transport. Let's consider several types of transport by which you can get to Cam Ranh:

  1. Taxi. This is the fastest and most convenient form of transport. You can use it to reach your destination in a short time. Moreover, it is more profitable to travel at a fixed price rather than at a meter. There are taxi stands right outside the airport. The average fare is $18. However, there are taxi drivers who ask for more, but you can always refuse their services.
  2. Bus. There is a special bus from the airport to the center, the cost of which is slightly higher than $25. Tickets for it can be purchased at the counter when leaving the complex. Note that it is advantageous to get to the center of Nha Trang, and from there you can quickly get to a hotel or restaurant.
  3. Urban transport. City buses run from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and also take you to the city center. On average, you can get there in 40-60 minutes. The price of the trip varies from 2 to 3 dollars.

As we can see, transport is available, and the choice is quite large. The choice depends on finances and time. If you need to get there quickly, then a taxi is perfect option. If you need to save money on the road, then a city bus is suitable.

Do you need a visa to Vietnam?

In order for the trip to be successful and take place at all, it is necessary to prepare everything in advance Required documents. Almost every Russian who intends to fly to Vietnam is interested in the question of whether a visa is needed for this country. There are some nuances here that need to be understood. You Are you flying for no more than 15 days? Then you don't need a visa. If you intend to stay in the country, then you will need to obtain a visa. Citizens of Ukraine and Kazakhstan need a visa even if they fly to Vietnam for several days. If you have a special invitation letter, you can apply for a visa right at the airport.

Are there any other airports in Nha Trang?

Many people know that Cam Ranh is not the only airport located in Nha Trang. There is another one, but civilian flights do not operate through it. An air base is based on that territory. From time to time, small airliners take off and land there, but this is only as part of exercises. There are several hotels near this airport. Visitors, as a rule, are in no hurry to settle there, thinking that there will be too much noise from airplanes. But in those surroundings it is very quiet and peaceful, because aircrafts are practically not used.

In general, there is only one air hub operating in Nha Trang, providing commercial services. All conditions have been created there so that passengers can wait for their flight in comfort and also land safely. Thanks to the parking lot, which is located at the exit from the airport, you can get to any place in a short time, without having to search for a ride.

In contact with

An independent tourist will definitely ask before the trip which airport his plane arrives at, what the conditions are there and how to get from the airport to the nearest city or required resort. And even if you are traveling in an organized manner, and a transfer to your holiday destination awaits you upon arrival, it will not hurt to have this information. Well, what airport does Nha Trang have? This resort in South Vietnam has long become a favorite holiday destination for Russians. A lot is written about Nha Trang - about its attractions, about the Vinpearl entertainment island, and about the cable car. Beaches, cuisine, hotels, where to go on excursions - there is more than enough information about this. But finding out what awaits you in the resort’s air harbor is much more difficult. In this article, we decided to fill the information gap and tell you more about the hub. We hope that the information provided will help you plan your trip.

How many airports are there near the resort?

Let's start with the fact that the resort has two air ports. The first, oldest airport is called Nha Trang. It is located in the very heart of the city, right in the tourist quarter. But if you are flying to Vietnam not on a military aircraft, but on board a civilian ship, Nha Trang Air Base is unlikely to accept you onto its landing strip. For this purpose, there is a second, larger and new international airport in Nha Trang. What is the name of this air harbor? The name of the nearest village is Cam Ranh (Cam Ranh is often indicated on air tickets with the hub code CXR). international Airport It also accepts local and domestic flights. Charters and low-cost airlines also land here. Despite the fact that Cam Ranh Airport can be overloaded during the high tourist season, its staff cope with the flow of passengers flawlessly. Tourists in their reviews also mention the ideal cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms.

History of the airport

Cam Ranh arose during the US-Vietnamese War. It was built by the US Air Force as an air base. After the war, Cam Ranh continued to be exploited by the military, only this time by the Vietnamese. The functions of the air gate for civilian aircraft were performed by the old Nha Trang Airport. But in the early 2000s it turned out that this hub could no longer be expanded or reconstructed. Therefore, the old airport was converted into a training and testing airfield. And all the functions of the air harbor were taken over by Cam Ranh, located far outside the city. Reconstruction was carried out, and since 2004 the airport began to receive and dispatch regular and charter passenger flights. It cannot be said that the territory of the air terminal has grown too much. Tourists describe Cam Ranh as a very compact airport. Nevertheless, in 2009 it was given international status. After all, it’s not the size that’s important, but the “filling.” And it is very modern in Kamran.

Nha Trang International Airport: arrivals board

Even if you are flying to the resort with transfers, via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Ranh hub will also accept domestic flights. Not to mention international ones. You can fly from Russia to Nha Trang aboard Vietnam Airlines. This airline operates regular flights from Moscow (Sheremetyevo) several times a week. But budget travelers they prefer to travel with transfers through Hanoi and other cities in Southeast Asia, since it is cheaper and gives more opportunities to get a ticket for the desired date. Nha Trang Airport is connected by daily flights to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Passenger transportation within the country is carried out by Vietnamese low-cost airlines VietJet Air and Jetstar Pacific Airlines. And if you book your tickets in advance, the prices at the flagship Vietnam Airlines will seem more than humane. Some travelers get to Nha Trang by a tortuous route - through Kuala Lumpur. But at the height of the tourist season, it is most profitable to fly to the resort on board a charter.

Terminal

Many passengers admit in their reviews that they did not expect such a small size of Nha Trang Airport. The resort is popular far beyond the borders of Vietnam, and its air harbor is like that of a provincial town regional center. However, this airport should not be compared with Chita or Voronezh. It is as clean as an operating room. The employees are not rude, but try to help in every possible way. The border guards, customs and security officers are very competent. Before you even reach the baggage claim area, your suitcases are already floating onto the belt. Under such conditions, the small size of the airport’s only terminal can only be considered an advantage. It's almost impossible to get lost. There are inscriptions everywhere, and, to the surprise of tourists, in Russian too. Check-in counters, VAT refund counters, and the departure lounge are located on the upper floors of the building. Baggage claim and customs come first. For passengers flying business class, there is a cozy lounge.

Services at Nha Trang Airport (Vietnam)

Despite the small size of the hub, it has everything to brighten up your wait for a flight or help you start your journey on a positive note. We have already mentioned the efficiency with which service workers carry out pre- or post-flight procedures. The queues only accumulate during the peak tourist season, when Nha Trang Cam Ranh Airport serves many charters with 150 passengers each. But even then the line of people moves quickly. Tired of a long 10-hour flight, tourists leave the terminal building 30 minutes after landing. As for those departing, numerous cafes and budget eateries in the food court, as well as a small duty-free shop, help to brighten up the wait. The waiting rooms are full of comfortable chairs and have free Wi-Fi. True, tourists in reviews complain about its speed. But this is a common occurrence in Vietnam. You can leave your things in the storage room and go to Nha Trang light. There are ATMs in the arrivals hall. But that’s not the only place where you can withdraw cash. There are also many bank branches. However, it is better not to change all the currency at once - the exchange rate here, as in many other airports in the world, is undervalued.

Visas for Russians

All international flight passengers arriving in Vietnam undergo passport control at Nha Trang Airport. But don't be afraid of border guards if you don't have a visa. If you come on vacation for up to 15 days, it is not needed. They simply put a stamp in your passport. If you come to study, work, or plan to stay in Vietnam on vacation for more than half a month, you can apply for a visa directly upon arrival. For Russians it is free. But you must have return tickets on hand, which indicate that you are leaving the country no later than a month after entry.

How to get to the city

First of all, let’s figure out how many kilometers it is from the airport to Nha Trang. Cam Ranh lies 35 km south of the resort. Therefore, it is not surprising that taxi prices are steep. Already in the arrivals hall, “bombs” will be calling you, promising to take you to the city cheaply and with ease. Don't give in to persuasion if you don't know how to bargain. Go to the official taxi rank. There, on a blue sign, fixed prices are indicated from the airport to different areas of the city. Typically, a taxi ride to the center will cost about 18 US dollars (1100 rubles). To get to your holiday destination without any worries, you need to order a transfer. This can be done before departure. You indicate the car class and destination, and they tell you the price. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a driver holding a sign with your name on it. The cheapest way to get to the city is to take the airport bus. Such minivans arrive for every flight. A ticket costs 70 thousand dong ($3.5/216 rubles), and you can buy it at a special counter in the baggage claim area. These minibuses go to the old Nha Trang airport, which, as we have already mentioned, is located in the very center. From there, for little money you can take city buses to any area.

From Nha Trang we go to Cam Ranh Airport

Two hours before each flight, bus No. 18 leaves from the center (Gorky Park area). If there are no traffic jams, it gets to the airport in forty minutes. The fare is 50 thousand dong (about 3 US dollars/185 rubles). But many hotels offer their own transfer to their guests. If you live in the area of the old airport, then it is more convenient to get to Cam Ranh by express minivan.

Nha Trang is one of those resorts where 99% of vacationers reach by air. Of course, there is a certain percentage of guests from neighboring countries who enter the city by personal car, bus, or even by railway. However, the main arrival point is Nha Trang (Cam Ranh) Airport. Actually, we’ll talk about it today and find out everything a tourist needs to know.

A moment of history

Let's start with the fact that this airport in Nha Trang was not built by the Vietnamese. It was created by the Americans during the Vietnam War. The airport was the home of the American Air Force in the south of the country. The entire complex was later transferred to the South Vietnamese government. And in 1975, North Vietnamese forces captured the airport and surrounding areas. Beginning in 1979 and for the next 25 years, first the Soviet and then the Russian Air Forces were based here. And only in May 2004 Cam Ranh Airport accepted the first “peaceful” flight from Hanoi. And after another 3 years it received international status.

In 2018, Nha Trang Airport acquired a new terminal, which significantly increased its capacity. The old terminal was designed to accommodate 1.5 million passengers per year and has been operating with significant overload for the last couple of years. Now it is focused exclusively on domestic flights, and the new one is focused on international flights. After expansion, Cam Ranh Airport can accommodate up to 2.5 million passengers per year. In addition, by 2030 this figure is planned to increase to 8 million per year.

This is what Cam Ranh Airport looks like now: on the left is the new international terminal, on the right is the small old one

Location

The first thing we note is the name of the airport in Nha Trang. And it is called Cam Ranh (CXR), in honor of the small town of Cam Ranh, near which it is located. To get to Nha Trang, you will still have to travel a good 26 km. Part of the road runs along a mountain serpentine along the coastline, so excellent views are guaranteed. To be fair, we note that there is also an airport within the city, but for many years it has practically not functioned. Exercises are held here occasionally. The airport also sometimes accepts small planes and helicopters. The rest of the time he looks idle.

This is what the old airport looks like inside the city

What is there at the airport

If we talk about the old terminal, then practically nothing. Of course, there are a dozen or two shops with souvenirs, Duty Free Nha Trang, a couple of cafes and currency exchange. But as soon as you get here at 3 am, you will see an absolutely dead airport. After going through passport control, you most likely won’t even find a bottle of water, as everything will simply be closed. In the new international terminal, of course, the situation is not so dire. There are more establishments/shops here, and they work better. But in general, the average traveler will find everything a tourist needs, no frills, as they say: modestly. but with taste.
We would like to note right away that the exchange rate at the airport is far from the most favorable. But the prices are quite reasonable. Especially when compared with some Sheremetyevo. At Nha Trang airport, for example, you can have a fairly inexpensive meal.

The photo shows almost the entire territory of the old terminal

The new terminal is much more spacious and modern

How to get to Nha Trang

In this article we will not talk about transfers provided by hotels and other options for delivering a “package” tourist to the city. Here we will consider the option of independently transporting your body to the warm beaches of Nha Trang from Cam Ranh Airport.
So, you have several options to choose from:

  • Bus. Everything here is extremely simple. There is a bus stop right opposite the entrance to the old airport terminal. It’s quite difficult to pass by, because a couple of barkers will immediately run up to you and call you on the bus in Russian and English. They all go to Nha Trang, so you can't go wrong. Ticket price is 50,000 dong (just over $2). The ride is quite comfortable if you are one of the first to enter. The bus has air conditioning and travels quickly - 40-50 minutes to the city center (if you arrive not during rush hour). Sometimes buses are quite rammed with bags that don’t fit into the luggage compartment, so you definitely can’t call such a trip from the airport in Nha Trang a luxury class.

This is what the bus that will take you to Nha Trang looks like

  • Taxi. This option is, of course, more comfortable. And you will be surprised, but it’s not much more expensive if you know what and how much it costs. So, if you want an inexpensive ride from the airport to the city, then never agree to metered fares. Such a trip will cost you 40 dollars. At the same time, in Nha Trang itself it is better to ride using a meter. As of the summer of 2018, the average cost of a trip from Cam Ranh to Nha Trang is about 300-350 thousand dong. So you can safely tell taxi drivers this amount. If they don’t agree, move a little further from the entrance to the airport, the guys there will be more accommodating. If they don’t want it here either, go to the old terminal. It's about 100 meters, no more, but the taxi drivers there are even more flexible. Especially those standing in the parking lot and waiting their turn. The fact is that many of them brought a passenger to the airport and simply do not want to go empty back to Nha Trang. But they need to go, since it is in the city that they earn the main money. So they have to agree to almost any amount. Some people manage to leave the old terminal for 200-250 thousand dong. But in general, we recommend not to be greedy, pay 300-350 thousand and go calmly immediately after entering Vietnamese soil.

Parking lot near the old terminal, where it is easiest to negotiate an inexpensive transfer to Nha Trang

  • Our transfer. Let us immediately note that this only works for our clients. That is, those who rent or buy real estate through our company. It means the following: a car meets you and takes you to your future place of residence. It costs the same 300-350 thousand dong (depending on the time and end point).

Otherwise, this is a very ordinary airport. Yes, the Vietnamese's English is so-so. But this is all over the country. At the same time, some airport employees speak Russian, and the signs are also duplicated in Russian in some places. As for the infrastructure, everything is intuitive. If you have flown before, then you won’t get lost at Nha Trang airport either. And don’t forget that you are going to Nha Trang airport - this is just a transit point and essentially there shouldn’t be anything interesting here. Everything is clear, simple and relatively fast. What else does a tourist need?

Finally, here's some useful information for you:

Nha Trang International Airport is located 36 km south of the resort, near the village of Cam Ranh in the bay of the same name. The name Nha Trang Cam Ranh Airport also appears.

There is an air base on the territory of the resort itself, but it is used exclusively for training pilots of the Vietnamese Air Force, and all civilian flights are handled by Cam Ranh Airport, so do not worry and look for other airports near Nha Trang.

In 2004, after reconstruction, the airport received its first commercial flight from Hanoi (in the 1960s and 70s it served as a base for American air forces during the Vietnam War). In 2007, the airport received international status and since then began to receive, among other things, charter flights.

In 2015, the airport served 2,722,833 passengers, which is 32% more than in 2014. It is the fourth busiest airport in Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines (state airline of Vietnam), Jetstar Pacific (low cost airline of Vietnam), Vietjet (international low-cost airline from Vietnam) and others operate regular flights to the largest cities in Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang.

Taxi

A trip to Na Trang by taxi from the airport will cost 380,000-400,000 dong. This is the average cost. Taxi drivers can jack up the price, explaining that they have a lot of luggage and the time of day, so you have to bargain with them. Nevertheless, it is more comfortable, although more expensive, than a bus, since delivery is directly to the hotel door, which, by the way, is better to mark on the map in advance.

In this material you will find out which airport in Nha Trang operates and accepts passengers today, what it is called, where exactly it is located and how to get from it to the hotel or city center.

About the airport

The official name of the international airport in Nha Trang is Cam Ranh International Airport. Cam Ranh Air Hub was built during the Vietnam War and was used as a military airfield by the American Air Force at that time. This is the closest airport to Nha Trang - it is located in Khanh Hoa province, 30 kilometers or half an hour's drive south of the city, on a peninsula between the South China Sea and Cam Ranh Bay.

In 1975, the airport and surrounding facilities were captured by North Vietnamese troops. It was subsequently used as a major naval base at first Soviet troops, and then by the Russian Air Force on the basis of a lease agreement concluded for a whole quarter of a century.

In 2004, the airport was completely reconstructed and began operating for citizens of the country, and after 3 years it received an upgrade to international status. The official opening of Cam Ranh Airport occurred in December 2009, when Vietnam Airlines launched its first flight to Seoul. Today, the main passenger traffic of this air harbor consists of travelers coming to relax in the south of Vietnam.

Today, hundreds of airlines operate their regular and charter flights here, including such well-known companies as Jetstar Pacific and Vietnam Airlines, as well as low-cost airlines Vietjet.

Vietnam Airlines has been flying to Nha Trang from Moscow since 2013. OrenAir planes also arrive from Russia.

As for regular domestic flights, planes from Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City and other major cities arrive here several times a day.

Cam Ranh, with a runway over 3 kilometers long, can accommodate aircraft of various configurations, including Airbus, Boeing and Russian IL-96.

If you go to the airport in a rented car, you may find its GPS coordinates useful: 11°59′53″ north latitude; 109°13′10″E longitude.

The international airport code adopted in the IATA certification system is denoted by three Latin characters - CXR (Cam Ranh). There is also a slightly outdated designation NHA (Nha Trang). According to the ICAO system, Nha Trang air harbor has a four-letter code VVCR.

Online scoreboard

A detailed schedule with arrival and departure times for international flights at Cam Ranh Airport can be viewed in real time on the online board located just below.

Basic services

Cam Ranh International Terminal is built on an area of 14,000 m², has a fairly simple layout, and the calm atmosphere in the terminals is due to the low passenger traffic.

While waiting for your flight, you can go shopping to buy gifts for family and friends, and also try Asian cuisine in one of the cafes or restaurants. There are also currency exchange offices, souvenir departments, ATMs and luggage storage. You can book a hotel directly at the airport if you have not done so in advance.

Luggage packing

You can pack your luggage in advance, but it would be better to do it at the airport itself. The price of the service in the international terminal is 100,000 dong, in the domestic terminal it is two times cheaper. When transporting alcohol and other liquids in glass bottles, you will most likely be asked to place them in a special foam box so that the glass does not break during the flight. This can be done there for the price of packing luggage.

Registration procedure

After packing your luggage, you can head straight to the check-in counters, where helpful and always smiling airport staff will help you check in your luggage and choose the right seats on the plane.

Check-in for domestic flights usually begins a couple of hours before takeoff and ends 20 minutes before landing. As for international flights, it’s better not to be late, since there are a lot of passengers on the plane, and check-in can end an hour before takeoff.

To register for a flight, you will need a foreign passport and a ticket or its electronic version. For regular flights of most airlines, you can check in in advance using the popular online check-in service.

How to get to the hotel

Taxi

One of the most simple ways will take a taxi from the Nha Trang Taxi company, which is waiting for tourists at the exit from the airport. We recommend using the services of this company, since they have a fixed cost of 380,000 dong (approximately $20, depending on the current exchange rate), indicated on the signs at the entrance to the parking lot.

A trip in regular taxis using a meter will definitely be less profitable. Depending on driving speed and traffic on the road, this trip will take from 30 to 45 minutes.

Public transport

You can also take a bus from Cam Ranh Airport to the hotel. The cheapest way would be to first take a minibus to the old airport, which will take you to the tourist center for 40,000 dong, and then you can take a taxi from there to your hotel for about 30,000 dong or walk.

In addition, you can get to the city by intercity buses, which stop at the bus station near the very center of Nha Trang.

And finally, you can get to the tourist area of the city, where most of the hotels are located, by Open Bus brand buses, tickets for which are best purchased in advance at the counters marked Tourist Information, located right at the airport, at the exit from the baggage claim area. The ticket price will be approximately 70,000 Vietnamese dong. Open Bus buses or minivans depart almost immediately after the arrival of the next international flight.
